싱어송라이터 Sam Smith(샘 스미스)는 Disclosure의 'Latch'에 피처링으로 참여한 것을 시작으로 음악계에 발을 들였고, 이후 피처링을 맡은 Naughty Boy의 'La La La'가 26개국 차트에서 1위를 하며 이름을 알리기 시작했다.

하지만 본격적으로 유명해진 것은 그의 첫 정규앨범 세 번째 싱글 'Stay With Me'가 대박을 터트리면서부터였다. 역주행을 거듭해 빌보드 싱글 차트 2위까지 기록하며 그는 일약 스타덤에 올라섰다.

2015년 "그래미 어워즈"는 그의 독무대였다. 올해의 레코드, 올해의 노래, 올해의 신인상 등 본상 3개 부문과 베스트 팝 보컬 앨범까지 4관왕을 차지한 것이다. 음악계 굵직한 아티스트로 발돋움한 그는 곧 영화 007 시리즈 "007 스펙터"의 주제가 'Writing's On The Wall'을 부르는 기회를 잡는다. 이를 통해 2016년 "73회 골든 글로브 시상식"과 "88회 아카데미 시상식" 주제가 상을 수상하기도 했다.
