Producer’s Note:

When I was around seven years old, my mother told me a story about shooting stars. It was a narrative that reflected the beginning and the end of our lives. I don’t know if it was really for me or a monologue expressing her yearning for her husband. One thing for sure was that she was crying. One sunny day twenty-seven years later, I received a call from my mother. She asked me, “Do you like your life?” I replied, “Why, Mom? Why are you asking?” She said, “I’m on top of a mountain now. It’s beautiful. I wish you could love your life.”

That was it. That was the last voice before she intentionally ended her life?a decision that broke many people’s hearts.

For the last fifteen years, my life has been full of questions, mostly about the purpose of life. Many thoughts that needed to be untangled became viable resources for my musical expression, which could not be easily articulated in words. Thoughts are livings things that have color, feeling, texture, and sometimes smell. That is why music becomes a powerful means for reflecting those thoughts. The most important aspect of a song is its immortality, which treats each of my thoughts as an individual whom I can meet again at some point beyond my life.

The idea of One Soul Fellowship’s new single “Still Young, Still Run” emerged in the year 2021, right after my mother-in-law crossed the river. So now, the song is a celebration of not only her life but the encounter of two women who never met, in a place where they are still young and can still run. “Still Young, Still Run” features the incredible musicianship of my long-time friend and One Soul Fellowship member pianist Art Hirahara and prominent guitarist and colleague David Gilmore whose contributions elevate the aesthetic of the track. I hope it inspires listeners to think about the meaning of life and how much we are blessed with what we have.
