뮤즈 (Muse)-Won't Stand Down

영국의 브릿팝 밴드 Muse는 Mathew Bellamy (보컬), Chris Wolstenholme (베이시스트), Domonic Howard (드러머)의 3인조로 구성되어 있다. 1999년 데뷔작 [Showbiz]를 발매하며 본격적인 시작을 알렸고, Muse의 다양한 사운드적 시도는 두 번째 앨범 [Origin of Symmetry]에서 더욱 진가를 발했다.

 

교회 오르간과 멜로트론은 물론 현악 섹션 등이 추가된 실험적인 사운드는 평단과 마니아들로부터 호평을 받았다. 2003년에 발표된 3번째 정규 앨범 [Absolution]은 그들의 본거지 영국에서 차트 1위에 오르며 금의환향을 알렸다. 빌보드 모던 록 트랙 차트에서는 'Hysteria(I Want It Now)', 'Time Is Running Out' 등이 10위권 안에 오르며 인기를 누렸다.

2006년에 발표한 4집 [Black Holes and Revelations]는 이들을 완전한 글로벌 스타로 만든 앨범이다. 영국은 물론이고 빌보드 앨범 차트 9위에 랭크되었으며, 'Knights of Cydonia'와 'Supermassive Blackhole', 'Starlight'는 2000년대 록 마니아들의 새로운 송가로 자리매김했다. 그 인기에 힘입어 2007년 NME 영국 최우수 밴드 상, 2008년 NME 최고 라이브 상을 수상하기도 했다. 이어2009년에는 직접 프로듀싱에 참여한 5집 [The Resistance]를 공개했으며, 다시 빌보드 앨범 차트 3위에 랭크되었다.
 
2015년에는 7집 [Drones]와 함께 귀환, 또 다른 음악적 실험으로 한 편의 대서사시를 보는 듯한 다양한 관점의 음악들을 선보였다. 이후 싱글 'Thought Contagion', 'Something Human', 'The Dark Side'에 이어 [Simulation Theory]를 발매했다.
