그래미 어워즈 9회 노미네이트, 아메리칸 뮤직 어워즈 17회 노미네이트와 3회 수상, 빌보드 뮤직 어워즈 약40회 노미네이트와 10회 수상에 빛나는 슈퍼스타 포스트 말론이 3년 만에 새로운 앨범으로 돌아왔다.

포스트 말론은 최근 외신과의 인터뷰에서 이번 앨범에 대한 특별한 심경을 내비쳤다. "음악을 만드는 것이 직업이 되고 히트곡을 만드는게 재미있었지만 어느 순간 더 이상 음악을 만들고 싶지 않다는 생각이 들었다.

 

 

이번 앨범은 그 무력감을극복한 상태에서 만든 작품이다. 14곡밖에 안 되지만 이전에 만들었던 어떤 앨범보다 더 많은 이야기를담았다. 이 앨범은 지금껏 만든 앨범 중에서 내가 가장 좋아하는 작품이다.”

“고치 안에서 웅크리고 있다가 태어난, 나비가 된 기분이다.” 이번 앨범의 커버 아트 역시 그동안 남모르게 겪었을 공인으로서의 고뇌와 어두운 면, 그리고 그를 극복하고 한 층 더 성숙한 포스트 말론을 상징하는 듯하다.

또, 그는 이번 앨범을 만드는 과정에서 타협 없이 본인의 직감에 더 집중했다고 밝힌 만큼, 이전보다 다양하고 색다른 음악을 선사한다. 위켄드, 도자 캣, 로디 리치, 더키드 라로이, 건나, 플릿 폭시스 등 독보적인 아티스트들의피쳐링 라인업까지 갖춘 이 앨범, 아티스트 본인의 속 깊은 이야기뿐만 아니라 듣는 재미까지 놓치지 않는훌륭한 작품으로 평가되길 기대해 본다.
