캐나다 출신의 팝 가수 Justin Bieber(저스틴 비버)는 노래 경연 대회에서 2위를 차지한후 2007년부터 어머니와 함께 유튜브에 노래하는 영상을 올리기 시작했다. So So Def 레이블의 마케팅 담당자가 우연히 동영상을 접하게 되어 그와 Usher를 만나게 했고 우여곡절 끝에 아일랜드 레이블과 계약을 맺으면서 본격적인 음악 활동을 시작하게 된다.

 

2009년 데뷔 EP [My World]의 선공개 싱글 'One Time'은 발매된 지 30시간 만에 10개국의 각종 차트를 휩쓸고 'One Less Lonely Girl', 'Love Me', 'Favorite Girl' 등이 연이어 라디오와 온라인에서 히트를 거두며 그를 유명 인사로 만들었다.

2010년 첫 정규 앨범 [My World 2.0]의 첫 싱글 'Baby'는 앳된 목소리와 풍부한 표현 능력으로 그의 인기를 미국과 캐나다를 넘어 세계 규모로 키우는데 일조했고 Sean Kingston이 피처링한 'Eenie Meenie', 트렌디한 덴스 팝 'Somebody To Love' 등이 연달아 흥행에 성공했다.

 

 

2012년 여름, 두 번째 정규작 [Believe]의 'Boyfriend'는 캐나다 싱글 차트 1위, 미국 싱글 차트 2위를 기록했으며 'As Long As You Love Me', 래퍼 Nicki Minaj와 함께한 'Beauty And A Beat', 댄스 팝 'All Around The World' 등이 Top 10 히트를 기록하면서 세계적으로 3백만 장 가까운 판매고를 올려 전작의 성공을 능가하는 히트를 거두었다. 

2012년 후반부터 시작된 그의 월드 투어는 다음 해까지 계속 이어졌고 2013년 10월에는 올림픽공원 체조경기장에서 첫 내한공연을 치렀다.


2015년 8월 Skrillex가 참여하여 화제가 된 'What Do You Mean?'을 공개, 빌보드 싱글 차트 1위에 오르는 쾌거를 이뤄냈으며 싱글 차트 1위에 이름을 올린 최연소 아티스트로 기네스북에 랭크되기도 했다.


이후 ‘Sorry', 'Love Yourself', 'Cold Water', Luis Fonsi의 곡 'Despacito' 리믹스 버전, Ed Sheeran과의 'I Don't Care', Billie Eilish의 'bad guy'에 이어 Dan & Shay와의 '10,000 Hours' 등 히트곡을 쏟아내며 트렌드를 이끄는 커리어를 펼친 그는 2020년 정규 5집 [Changes]에 이어 2021년 [Justice]까지 발매하며 꾸준한 음악적 영감을 내비쳤다.
