캘리포니아 주 출신의 6인조 팝 록 밴드 Maroon 5 (마룬 5)는  2002년, 정규 1집 [Songs About Jane]으로 데뷔해 크게 주목을 받지 못했지만 꾸준한 공연을 펼치며 밴드의 이름을 알리기 시작했다. 그 결과, 발표 후 1년이 넘어 싱글 차트 18위에 오르는 늦깎이 성공을 거두었고 다음 해에는 빌보드 차트 6위까지 오르며 확실한 주류 진입에 성공했다.

 

그 기폭제가 된 곡들은 데뷔 앨범의 두 번째 싱글인 'This Love'와 세 번째 싱글인 'She Will Be Loved'였다. 댄서블 그루브와 경쾌한 록 비트가 완벽하게 조화된 'This Love'는 밴드의 음악적 정체성을 확립시키며 그들의 시그니처 싱글이 되었고, 'She Will Be Loved' 역시 Adam의 부드러운 보컬의 개성을 충분히 어필하면서 여성 팬들의 사랑을 얻는 데 한몫했다. 이에 데뷔 앨범 판매량은 5백만 장을 돌파했고 2005년 "그래미 어워드"에서 최우수 신인상을 차지하는 영광을 안았다.
